Eva Colombo, D’Annunzio’s bestiary,
first chapter: The mark of the
goat
In a short and enigmatical prose work written on the threshold of old age,
D’Annunzio portrays himself as nine years old fanciful child whose clumsy
attempt to open a shell – fish with a knife procures him a bleeding wound on the
left thumb. Only witness of this misadventure, a demonic goat with sulphureous
eyes. Following her through D’Annunzio’s works we will discover her true
identity: the mystagogue of an erotic – poetic initiation. |
